Gearing up for a new display season!

Just a few days ago I picked up our new display bird a Peregrine Falcon. He is already eager to jump to my fist for a tidbit. We have displays starting in June already this year. There also are some more booked for the next few months as well.

Bitter sweet life that is Falconry.

Sadly my Bald Eagle died shortly after those pictures were taken. After spending so much time with her and seeing the foundations of a good solid relationship starting to develope, it is a huge personal loss and there is not a day go by that she is not missed. It just goes to remind us that life is short and fragile and that we should cherish and make the most out of every day we are gifted to enjoy.

However: "When God shuts a door He opens a window" So I'm still preparing for the display season ahead even without (what would have been) our feature bird for the season.

More Pics of Female Bald Eagle

Here are some more pictures of our Eagle, She is definately more calm now, which is really good. She is catching on fast.

The picture above gives a idea how big her wing span really is :)

Whats up for Spring 2010

We are very excited to see what will transpire this year. Already there have been calls for displays as early as May and bookings for September as well. We really excited about introducing our newest bird to the display this year. She is a young female Bald Eagle. She joined us early February and she is big and beautiful! She will not get her black and white feathers until she is 3 or 4 yrs old but she is still quite the bird to behold. The picture does not do her justice, she is 13lbs and absolutely monstrous on the fist. It is so fascinating to see her progress as I work with her. She was so scared at first and now the relationship of trust is building and last night for the first time, she willingly stepped up onto my fist for a chick. Words alone have no way of really describing that incredible moment. She hasn't received a name yet, but hopefully we will think of a suitable name for her soon. At the moment our team includes a female Saker Falcon, a Eurasian Eagle Owl, a Harris Hawk and the female Bald Eagle. We are hoping to announce more birds for the team as the season progresses so make sure you check back at a later date.
